Why Dental Emergencies Are Something We Often Treat

Why Dental Emergencies Are Something We Often TreatWhen we go out for some fun, we are often asked questions about what happens in our office. Although we can never talk about specifics, we do have some stories about the dental emergencies that we face.

The things that we treat can surprise many people. They do not think that our office would be able to help with these types of problems.

Toothaches

The most common emergency we treat is a toothache. This is not always an emergency. If people would come and see us at the first sign of a toothache, they could avoid a lot of problems. Unfortunately, many people wait until they can no longer manage the pain on their own.

Broken, Cracked or Chipped Teeth

Teeth can break, chip or crack for many reasons. Injuries happen, and people do things that put their teeth at risk for something like this happening. It is important to get treatment for a broken, chipped or cracked tooth as soon as possible before the damage gets worse or if there is pain associated with the injury.

Lost or Damaged Fillings

Fillings can fail at any time. It can happen because of an injury or it could happen because the filling just gave out. In any case, getting treatment is essential to prevent more problems from occurring.

Lost Crowns

Crowns do not always last forever. Like a filling, they can break or come out for a variety of reasons. Getting a new crown or repairing the crown is not something to wait on.

Dental Abscess

This is an emergency that you cannot ignore. An abscess is an infection that if left untreated, can spread to other parts of the body. It also causes a lot of pain and swelling. Get help as soon as possible when you have a dental abscess.

Oral Injuries

Any trauma that injures the mouth, gums or jaw is a dental emergency. Do not wait to get help to retreat a traumatic injury to this area.

The key word in dental emergency is emergency. Anything that causes pain or that puts your oral health at risk for serious problems is an emergency and needs treatment as soon as you can.

Contact our office whenever you have a dental emergency to get the help you need.
