Implant Bridge

Mini Dental Implants

Your teeth are a small part of your body. While you may not think much of them throughout the course of the day, they are responsible for many important everyday functions. When you lose your teeth, however, their loss becomes quite noticeable. Even losing just a few teeth can have a major impact on every function of your mouth. When this happens, your oral health, your overall health, and your appearance all suffer. At Palisades Surgical Arts, we can restore the functions, and aesthetics, of your missing teeth with an implant bridge.

What effects does tooth loss have?

Missing even just a few teeth in a specific area of your mouth can have several serious impacts on your life:
•  Increased difficulty eating. Your teeth are essential for biting and chewing your food. Missing teeth makes it more difficult for you to do these things. Moreover, because chewing is the first stage in digestion, poor chewing can lead to poor digestion and poor nutrition.
•  Greater risk for tooth decay and gum disease. Food can become lodged in the empty spaces, which are often more difficult to keep clean.
•  Trouble is speaking. Depending on the location of your missing teeth, you may have trouble speaking properly. Your teeth control air flow, and without this control, you may develop a lisp or other speech difficulties.
•  Diminished smile. Your teeth provide you with a beautiful, confident smile. With empty spaces between your teeth, your smile suffers, and your confidence may decrease.
•  Weakening jawbone. When you lose your teeth, your jawbone begins to weaken. As this happens, the bone changes shape, which can cause your remaining teeth to shift out of their natural alignment. You may be faced with issues such as an off bite, bruxism, and TMJ disorder. When your jaw changes shape, it also affects the shape of your face and can cause you to appear older than you are.

Traditional Replacement

Traditionally, replacing sections of missing teeth has been done with either a fixed bridge (usually used for one to three missing teeth) or a partial denture (more than three). A fixed bridge consists of your replacement teeth set between two crowns, which are anchored onto the adjacent teeth. A partial denture is a removable prosthesis that consists of replacement teeth set into an acrylic base. The base sits on your gums and is additionally anchored in place with metal clasps.

Implant Bridges

Office of oral surgeon in Pacific Palisades, CA, who places dental bridges for patients. While both traditional options are still available today, there is one more option—an implant bridge. An implant bridge uses dental implants to support your section of replacement teeth. Dental implants are small titanium rods that are surgically inserted into your jawbone. Depending on your specific needs, we will place one or more implants for your implant bridge. Healing from surgery can take several weeks to several months, during which time you are provided with temporary teeth. As you heal, your natural bone fuses to the implants, turning them into stable roots. Your permanent replacement teeth are screwed in place on top of the titanium rods and remain permanently in place.

Implant Bridge Benefits

Implant bridges offer numerous benefits:
•  More natural appearance.
•  All functions of your teeth and your mouth are restored.
•  Surrounding teeth remain completely intact.
•  Greater comfort.
•  Easier to care for.
•  Permanent and non-removable.
•  Implants protect the strength and integrity of your jawbone, preventing the bone loss that usually follows tooth loss.

If you are missing multiple teeth in any given area of your mouth, you may be a candidate for an implant bridge. Contact Palisades Surgical Arts at (424) 346-0955 for more information, and to schedule your consultation today.
