Water Can Help During Gum Disease TreatmentIf you have gum disease, water can support treating the condition. The following will provide you further reasons why water is necessary.

How Water Can Help Treat Gum Disease

Treating gum disease may take time. However, by following a regular schedule of oral hygiene and receiving help from us, the process will become easier. One of the things we strongly recommend is that you drink plenty of water, or at least eight glasses each day. Doing so provides you with several benefits. First, it clears away any excess food particles and the biofilm or plaque that hardens into tartar. While it won't replace daily brushing and flossing, it serves as a dependable adjunct to your routine dental care at home. Moreover, drinking water helps you overcome disease more efficiently because it makes the mouth less acidic. Any acid buildup leads to the erosion that causes cavities and gum disease. Therefore, water makes the mouth less susceptible to the decay that leads to gum disease.

How to Ensure You Get Plenty of Water

To improve your treatment of gum disease by drinking water, you will need to increase your water uptake. If you cannot drink eight glasses, think about adding foods that contain water that also scrub away plaque. One of these foods is watermelon. Not only is it soft to eat, it is also nutritionally dense and therefore supports your overall health. Another watery food is strawberries. Not only are strawberries filled with antioxidants that fight gums disease, such as vitamin C, they reduce inflammation. Therefore, they are the ideal food to eat to receive the water and nutrition you need to fight gingivitis. Besides drinking water and eating foods that contain extra water, you should make it a practice to rinse your mouth throughout the day. Doing so will moisten the tissues, thereby ensuring a healthier mouth. It also helps to drink water at each meal. Again, this neutralizes the acids in your mouth.

Are you ready to fight gum disease and improve your oral health? We can assist you periodontally and with your at-home care. Give us a call to schedule an appointment for an exam and consultation. Keep your gums healthy by drinking water or rinsing after meals or when you brush.
