Is It True You Need to Avoid Exercise After Surgical Procedures?

Posted on 12/7/2020 by Palisades Surgical Arts
Is It True You Need to Avoid Exercise After Surgical Procedures? The astounding answer is yes! It does not matter what type of surgery you went through as long as you find a way to stay safe. Whether simple or complicated, surgery comes with risks of complications that can negatively impact your overall wellbeing. Chief among these risks are infections and injuries that occur shortly after surgery. That is why you should stay away from most fitness exercises until when you are strong enough.

The Impact of Fitness Exercise After Surgery

You should know that surgical operations take a tremendous toll on your body. Therefore, you need to follow post-surgery orders to achieve a complication-free recovery. Failure to follow the surgeon's instructions can worsen your condition, especially after undergoing oral surgery involving dental implants, tooth extractions, and reconstruction surgery. So taking a while from strenuous work and body fitness is crucial when it comes to regaining your strength. However, taking part in vigorous workouts can be uncomfortable on your side in addition to causing some complications. For instance, starting your workout routine too soon can result in nose bleeding, swelling, fluid collection, and wound separation. All these incidents can become life-threatening, not to mention delaying the healing process. That said, you need to take it easy during the first 24 hours after surgery.

When to Start Your Workout

Always keep in mind that the more intense your surgery is, the longer you will wait to heal well. It does not imply that you ignore your fitness goals throughout your healing process. Instead, you may start small as healing progresses. After a few days following your surgery operation, you can begin by doing low impact activities like walking or simple stretches. Lifting light weights, stretching a little bit, and yoga can be an excellent way of starting a good workout routine.
